Automaton of Soul and Song

This is my first attempt at Steampunk, I hope its something worth looking at XD; *shot*
This took me FOREVER, this was an exercise to understand using textures and making metal LOOK like metal in photoshop.

This is my second character concept, and I am very happy with her. Though I may have to go back (AGAIN) to touch up the dark shadows. It would look fine on my computer and then I would take it to class and everything is just TOO dark. =____= its annoying. Other than that, I want something better for a background, but as of right now this is a placeholder.

I was inspired the a new band I am a huge fan of, Steam Powered Giraffe, and it made me want to design my own automaton. I thought about one that would be like a music "box." She sings and performs for those her Master desires. However, her master passed and now holds the soul passion of her creator. She lives without being plugged into her "wall" and freely wonders. She helps assist a few kids who are on a journey though their dream-like adventure. I am thinking of a story for this particular character. The next couple of paintings will feature her but will be in an actual illustration. I am Very excited to see where this character can take me.
