Draw the Black Queen Again by IndigoFlamingo Draw the Black Queen Again by IndigoFlamingo
This is my entry for the Draw This Again Challenge Contest. I see a huge improvement! I realize that even though I still have a long journey ahead to improve, but this shows that the only way to go is up.

Two character concepts. Originally the vector was a self portrait in a Tim Burton style. Now in the recent painting, I was able to find my own way in 'style' and proceed to add the details needed to create a dress worth while. Very extravagant!

:bulletpurple: Below are the dates when the images were submitted.

Before: May 20, 2010 [link]
After: September 17, 2012 [link]

There is so much more detail in the updated version that you cannot see in this form. Like the older version, please be sure to take a good look at the larger version of the image!

Thank you all for your support, comments, faves, critiques, and mostly love! You guys encourage me to keep on trucking and do my best.

Enjoy!

Thank you very much.^^
Sadly I wasn't one of the 50 semi-finalists, but I'm happy with the fact that I improved and people are seeing it as well.

Some chose pieces that were 5 years ago, I chose a piece from a reasonable amount of years ago. I think its also due to the signature on the final piece, when in the rules I wasn't supposed to have anything on it. I don't really understand why but, alright, fine. Yea, I'm a little distraught, but I'll just keep on trying working harder.
Thanks you for the support :hug:

I'm certainly glad to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks of this factor. I personally thought was going to be a original art piece, but I see some that were fanart that made it past the first round. I love fanart, inspiring and all, but I don't think that shouldn't be acceptable. But that's just me, the contest did state that it can be a piece that the artist really enjoyed, so I have no say about that.
Did you enter the contest too? O.O?

I did not ^^;
I always meant to do the meme that this contest centered around, but I haven't actually gotten a chance to do so yet, and rarely enter contests anyways ^^;

I understand. I didn't do the meme until this past January just giving it a shot. It makes me more confident that I am improving. But, I rarely enter contests because I feel like I don't have the skill level to actually COMPETE. But....annnyway. I love the final piece and I am planning on doing this piece again in a couple of years.

I think they're both quite nice. To me, they seem like two versions of the same thing, (cos they are??) rather than a re-do, if you know what I mean. While it's clear that you've grown as an artist, it wouldn't be fair to say the newer drawing is any better than the older one--just different. :meow:

YOU!! :iconsupertackleplz::iconletmehugyouplz:
I think I see what you mean. Though I was still very new to the digital medium, and the new version is basically growth in the area. They are both two different styles, but it also shows artistic maturity. Back then I wasn't able to get away from the kiddie cartoon look, but vector kind of makes it hard to do that XD; Now I feel confident enough to say that I have a style that I am comfortable with.

I'm glad that you enjoy the pieces. Thank you Gnomey.:dummy:

Yes. In two more years time, you should revisit this subject again. Who knows how far you'll take it, because I know you'll just be even better.

Also, those gifs. Haahhaha. Why can't we fav comments??

She does look a lot more extravagant in the right side! :D I like the cartoony style of the one on the left, though, but that's just a personal opinion. x3

I can definitely see the huge improvement, too! It's always awesome to see the pieces right next to each other, because then it's easier to compare. :D

I do enjoy the cartoony quality of that image. I was trying to give that Tim Burton like effect, I think it came out okay. XD; It was considered great 2 years ago when I did that piece.

Seeing them side by side makes my heart glow to see improvement.
Ever heard of the conceptual artist SixMoreVodka? He is basically my inspiration.

SEE?!?! BUT DON'T YOU LOVE IT?!
I felt that way when I first show that site. Even my digital painting professor, who you will find here roman-noir.com, was like "*stares*........okay I am going to cry in a corner now. That pisses me off. *now imagine that in a think French accent, and expressionless/stoic/eccentric..thats Bastien for ya*"

Keep on trucking!! Dude I look through here all the time and see art that makes me wanna say "Screw this, I'm done." AND GET AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER IF YOU ARE FEELING OVERWHELMED. I had to calm my sister a few times when she gets that way....ugh.

XDDD I'm gonna have to. I feel like just... AUGH. I should be farther along than I am. I feel like I'm not doing enough XD; it's terrible.

I get that lecture all the time from my life drawing professor...he never shuts up. =___= but I KNOW I can push through. And You will too! I look around sometimes and I feel like I can kick butt, but there were a few times where I'm like, "Crap...just...crap."

It makes you really think, BUT he has been at this for YEEEAAARRRRS! We have only been doing this for less than 5 years, and the growth we see is just as important as art making. Never ending journey to improve, BUT at least I know that with all that we do we are never going to get sick due to the lack of brain functionality. Oh I get that feeling to, thus why I pollute my brain with sickeningly good art and make myself work, but still have fun~ You will realize that those who put more into a piece really had fun and loved figuring out those little puzzles of how to get a particular detail.
