Female Face Tutorial

Description

Hello again, my dear followers of the manga arts! Last time we did the female anatomy. Today, this is the face anatomy of your female character.

Again, it is all about drawing what you see and getting used to the strokes. It takes time to perfect your own technique.

Step 1: The Wired Head

*
The head is first drawn out in an egg-like shape. The chin is not widely curved like an egg, but instead it is pointed.

For a typical 3/4 view (The style of the face looking towards) you must draw out a slightly curved line off center of the face. Do the same with the horizontal line curving in across the face. This will help determine where the nose the and eyes will align.

Step 2: Eyes

*
The eyes are the key to know what kind of characteristics your character possesses. This is a problem with most first timers, they draw the eyes the exact same size. Thats a no no. Look at the second drawing, you see that the character's right eye (your left) is slightly smaller AND slightly angled. For this positon, the character's right eye is higher than her left eye. Her left eye is larger. Draw the eye that is "closer" to you first. In this case, it is the character's left eye (your right)

* I have drawn out examples for eyes. You draw out the top arch first, then depending on how big or small your eye is, you draw a straighter and shorter arch below the top arch. Add the circle for the eye, and have fun with adding the shine. The larger or more shine (white circles) the more nice or innocent the character is going to be. Usually the smaller or slited the eyes are, the more ominous and troublesome the character will be.

Step 3 and 4: Nose and Mouth

*
The nose and mouth are two of the most difficult things to draw on a face. This is fairly simple to explain. It took me too long to really get the technique down, so I recommend you all the trace the noses and mouths until you have the stroke down pat. I would stare at a drawing and practice while looking at the smile or nose. I have drawn out several techniques of each. :D

* If you were wondering about the hair line above the eyes ,I have now given you my answer in this step. I keep the bangs around that general area. Hair can range from hundreds of different styles. Just use light strokes of parallel lines. Don't make the hair stringy. Try to draw out nice looking chunks.

Step 5: Cleaning and Shading

*
After you ahve drawn out what you wanted, erase the unwanted and go on with darkening and shading your character. Add shading on the face under hair, eye sockets, under the crease of the neck...you get the point. Shading also calls for a keen eye. Its about where the light is hitting the character.

* I have also given you an example of a girl with large eyes, small nose, small mouth, and long flowing hair. Big difference isn't it? Look how cute she is! :3
